BIGLER TOWNSHIP – State Police are investigating a phone scam that stole $2,500 dollars from an elderly man.
According to Clearfield State Police, at the beginning of May a 72 year-old man received a phone call from a Washington D.C. phone number claiming that someone had stolen his identity and if he did not give them the money in gift cards he would lose his social security benefits.
Authorities would like to remind you that they will never ask for payments through a gift card. They also say that if you receive a call like this you should hang up and immediately call the police.
