HARRISBURG – Saturday is opening day of Pennsylvania’s statewide firearms deer season. It’s not an official state holiday, but some treat it as one.
Opening day is by far the busiest single day on the hunting calendar with approximately half a million people heading into the woods across the state.
According to the National Deer Association, Pennsylvania is always tops in the country for hunter density with 14.4 hunters per square mile.
The season starts on Saturday, continues on Sunday, November 26th, and then runs through Saturday, December 9th, excluding only Sunday, December 3rd.
Pennsylvania’s hunters typically do well ranking among the top five states for antlered buck harvest; antlered buck harvest per square mile; antlerless deer harvest; and antlerless deer harvest per square mile.
