HARRISBURG – New Year’s Day guided hikes will be offered at 34 of Pennsylvania’s state parks, including Parker Dam, Canoe Creek, and Cook Forest state parks in the Tri-County area.

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is offering the guided hikes as part of the nation-wide “First Day Hike” effort.

The First Day Hikes campaign was designed to promote a healthy start to the new year.

DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn said, “These hikes are a reminder our state parks and forests are open for healthy outdoor adventures in all four seasons.”

The hikes will be led by state park staff and volunteers.

They are usually about one or two miles depending on the park and its terrain.
