Harrisburg – A bill pending Senate approval in Harrisburg would help Pennsylvania’s volunteer fire and emergency medical services organizations in recruiting and retaining personnel.

Legislation which passed in the State House a few weeks ago would provide $1,000 in tuition assistance each year for full-time students, and $500 for part-time students who volunteer with their local fire or EMS company.

The bill also has provisions for $1 million in scholarships to EMS providers who complete approved training, and it allocates $250,000 to the current firefighter online training program.
