Pennsylvania House approves bill to expand Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has approved a bill that would expand Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.

On Monday, House Bill 1100 was approved by the House in a 194 to 9 vote.

According to Finance Committee Chair Steve Samuelson, this bill would amend the Taxpayer Relief Act to “increase income limits, provide larger rebates for those who qualify and includes a cost-of-living adjustment.”

The cost-of-living adjustment would ensure that increases to Social Security or an individual’s pension would not cause recipients to lose their rebate.

Samuelson reports if the bill passes the Senate and is signed into law, nearly 175,000 Pennsylvanians would now be eligible for the PT/RR Program.
