PennDOT Plans Various Road, Bridge Projects in Clearfield, Elk Counties

CLEARFIELD – A project to demolish and remove a Clearfield County bridge which has been closed to traffic for the past five years is scheduled to begin today. PennDOT officials decided to remove the truss bridge along Route 2020 in Chester Hill Borough last summer, when it was determined that repairs or conversion to a pedestrian bridge would be too expensive. While the work takes place to demolish and remove the bridge, traffic will continue following the detour set up using McGuirk Street, Walton Street, and Water Street. PennDOT says the project should be finished in June.

PennDOT maintenance crews will be at work on several different roads in Clearfield and Elk Counties this week. In Clearfield County, drainage pipe replacement and cleaning work is scheduled to take place along Route 153 in Huston Township; Route 219, Stiffler Town, and Stiffler Hill Roads in Burnside Township; Carrs Hill Road in Pike Township; and Plank Road in Gulich Township during daylight hours each day this week.

Road work is also planned in Elk County for Route 219 in Ridgway and Horton Townships; and Route 255 in the City of St. Marys, Jay, and Fox Townships on Monday and Tuesday. Shoulder work has also been planned for Interstate 80 in Clearfield County between mile markers 111 and 123.

PennDOT officials say flaggers will be directing traffic through the work zones where necessary.
