DUBOIS – A long awaited Practical Nursing Program is now underway in DuBois, offering hands-on training through local healthcare facilities filling gaps in the medical profession.
As Program Coordinator Niki Dufour says, this program will blend classroom instruction and practical lessons utilizing community partners like Penn Highlands, Christ the King Manor, and Punxsutawney Area Hospital
“The nursing shortage has been a problem off and on for my entire career,“ explained Dufour. “So this program is a huge huge need.”
The 18-month program welcomed 13 students this week and was nearly at capacity upon announcement. Its future, however, remains uncertain as Penn State DuBois faces closure.
