HomeFeel-Good/EventsPenn Highlands Elk named in top critical access hospitalsPenn Highlands Elk named in top critical access hospitalsFri, May 20, 2022 by Louise BennettSHARE NOW St. Marys – The Penn Highlands Elk Hospital with campuses in Ridgway and St. Marys was recently named one of the top 20 critical access hospitals in the country.A critical access hospital is one which provides essential access to high-quality healthcare in rural communities.This designation places Penn Highlands Elk in the top 2% of all critical access hospitals nationwide.Penn Highlands Elk serves the residents of Elk, Cameron and neighboring counties.The top 20 ranking for Penn Highlands Elk was determined by the Chartis Center for Rural Health.An awards ceremony will be held during the National Rural Health Association’s Critical Access Hospital Conference in September in Kansas City.
