DuBois, PA – Our Penn Highlands DuBois hospital working towards operating as a Level II Trauma Center, likely sometime in 2022.

Penn Highlands Healthcare Chief Operating Officer Mark Norman gave an update on the exciting news at Thursday’s Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce Business Connections luncheon.

The closest Level II Trauma Center would be Altoona Hospital. There are also trauma centers in Pittsburgh, Danville, and Erie.

However, during a trauma situation with severe injuries, every moment counts. Having a higher level trauma center closer for our residents is a major benefit in saving lives.

Being able to keep a patient in DuBois is also a benefit to family members, who might struggle to visit their loved ones when they are in a hospital farther from home.

As part of becoming accredited as a Level II Trauma Center, Penn Highlands DuBois is expanding the Emergency Department. Norman says they are planning to add 28 new ER bays, bringing the total to 40.
