DUBOIS – Penn Highlands DuBois‘ Trauma Center received the Rural Health Program of the Year award Monday Morning.
This award highlighted the dedication and service of the trauma center’s work in rural areas like DuBois and the Tri-County region.
We heard from Dr. Philip Vuocolo, Trauma Program Medical Director and Trauma Surgeon at Penn Highlands DuBois, who told us what it means to receive this award.
“It’s very important, especially in our area,“ explained Dr. Vuocolo. “Any delays in diagnosis or delays in treatment in trauma can lead to disability and death. And that’s why we’re here, so the quicker we can get to a trauma patient, the quicker we can diagnose them, treat them, the quicker we can get the problem fixed and get them better.”
In the end, Dr. Vuocolo believes that the real award is the over 2,000 trauma patients that Penn Highland DuBois serves now.
