Parker Dam State Park Utilizing Coyote Decoys

PENFIELD – Parker Dam State Park officials are trying something new to keep geese away from the beach area.

Coyote decoys will be used the next few weeks in an attempt to steer the birds away from settling in the park during their spring migration. An environmental interpretive technician at Parker Dam, Jeremiah Irvin, says the coyote decoys can help scare geese away, if used properly. Irvin noted that the geese are messy and can increase the bacterial counts in the water to an unsafe level which would cause limited access to the lake.

The coyote decoys will only be kept up during the spring, but may be brought out if a problem arises during the summer.
