PA Wilds announces the 2022 Champions of the PA Wilds Awards

Kane – The PA Wilds Center has announced nine winners of the 2022 Champions of the PA Wilds Awards, and two of them are in the Tri-County area.

The “Event of the Year Award” goes to Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County.

Each year, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club organizes the February 2nd festivities that draw up to 30,000 visitors.

Winner of the “Great Places Award” is Twin Lakes Recreation Area in Wilcox, Elk County which boasts a swimming area, picnic pavilion, campground, interpretive trails and a trout stream.

The Champion of the Pennsylvania Wilds Awards are intended to celebrate those who in the last year have made significant contributions to help grow and sustainably develop the outdoor recreation economy and nature tourism in the Pennsylvania Wilds.

The winners will be honored at a dinner ceremony in late July.
