DUBOIS – Dozens of local children set up their own booths, showcasing their business skills to the public in the 2024 annual Kids in Business.
This year we had over 30 booths set up offering a variety of goods and services ranging from baked goods, homemade drinks, snack foods, handmade crafts, and services like juggling lessons and learning to play golf.
From 11am to 1pm these kids had to show the public what they had, showcasing multiple elements of running and operating a business including selling products, making change, and talking about the creative process.
At 12:45pm we called all participating kids to an awards ceremony where we crowned 5 different businesses based on a panel of non-associated judges, and a 6th chosen by the Sunny crew.
Best presentation was won by “It’s Kind of Hard Being a Card” run by Rosalie Smith and Nora Rice. Best Sales Technique was won by “EA Snacks” run by step brothers Easten Dodd and Alexander Long. Most Creative Business Idea was won by “Sensation Station” by Emberlee Carlson. Best Homemade Treat was won by “Kenley’s Bobo Tea” by Kenley Camise. And the Best overall was won by “5 Busy Bee Creamery” ran by Olivia, Henry, and Finley Reith.
The Sunny106 Honorable Mention was won by “Definitely Dani” ran by Danica Sarvais. This booth featured handmade pens, wine stoppers, and other trinkets put together by Danica. We spoke to her and her grandmother, Beverely Reich, who told us that Danica was born deaf and has autism. Even with the disabilities, Danica found joy joining her grandmother in craft making.
“She enjoys doing crafts,“ explained Reich. “I take her down to my craft room, not a lot she can do down there and this was something I thought she could definitely handle.”
This year’s Kids in Business was sponsored by Timberland Federal Credit Union, Lifespan Family Services, and the Gourmet Kitchen.
We will have a full video with multiple interviews on TriCountyTV.
