Nursing homes use technology to keep families in contact

DuBois, PA – With precautions being taken with the COVID-19 virus, nursing homes throughout Pennsylvania are not allowing visitors to enter the facilities, but that doesn’t mean that families aren’t staying close!

Nelson’s Golden Years and other nursing home in our area are helping their residents still see their families.

On March 13, personal care facilities made the decision to close their doors to all family and friends, only allowing essential medical and health professionals to come in.

Specifically at Nelson’s Golden Years in DuBois, they have implemented mobile and video chat options through FaceTime, Messenger, Skype, and Google Duo. Of course, there are families that visit by coming to the front door and writing messages to each other.

Although the importance of family interaction is crucial to the resident’s well-being, the residents acknowledge that the staff at Nelson’s Golden Years are the closest thing to family especially now.
