Gaskill Township, PA – Everyone escaped safely but a teen’s vehicle was damaged when it caught fire over the weekend in Jefferson County.

18-year-old Kiera Shaffer from Smicksburg had been driving her 2011 Hyundai Sonata on State Route 36 around 6:20 Saturday evening.

She noticed smoke coming from the engine, so she pulled over to the side of the road and found that there were flames coming from the engine compartment.

A fire extinguisher was used to put out the fire.

Big Run Fire Department, Jefferson County EMS, and Brocious Towing all helped at the scene.

Shaffer and her passengers, 22-year-old Logan Hill from Clymer and 18-year-old Carissa Schuckers from Nescopeck, were all not injured.
