New Year’s Day: Banks, liquor stores, DMVs, schools closed for holiday

SHARE NOW

Harrisburg, PA – Banks, liquor stores, and PennDOT driver’s license and photo centers will all be closed statewide for New Year’s Day this Saturday.

The US mail will also not be delivered that day. Schools are still on winter break, and most of them will return for classes on Jan. 3.

Be aware that some store hours may vary by location, so please call your local store if you need to check.

Although New Year’s Day is a federal holiday and most government facilities will be closed, New Year’s Eve is not a federal holiday. Some businesses are still taking today and tomorrow off, so call or check store websites ahead of time.

The U.S. Postal Service won’t deliver mail tomorrow, and all government buildings, including driver’s license centers and liquor stores will be closed. PA liquor stores will close at 8 p.m. tonight and remain closed throughout Saturday, New Year’s Day.

On that note, remember that if alcohol is going to be part of your New Year’s celebration, never get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking and if you’re going to be away from your own house, make a plan beforehand and arrange a safe and sober ride back home.
