Brookville, PA – The new Jefferson County Commissioner, filling the spot of the recently resigned Jack Matson, will officially be appointed on Aug. 11.
Commissioner John “Jack” Matson announced at the June meeting that, although he’s loved his time as a commissioner, he’ll no longer live in the county as of Aug. 1. He’s moving to a small town in NC to work at a company that plants trees to offset carbon emissions.
His resignation will officially take effect July 31, meaning someone will need to be appointed to his seat.
The Jefferson County Republican Chairperson and the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas reviewed the candidates for the position. The Chair recommended that the top three candidates be interviewed privately and on the record.
Judge John Foradora will made the final decision about which candidate will be appointed to the commissioner position on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Brookville. The judge will also state his reasoning for the decision at that time.
The announcement will also be livestreamed via the Jefferson County website.
