DUBOIS – As we continue to spotlight the newly-elected municipal officials in DuBois and Sandy Township, today we tell you more about one of the newest DuBois City Council members, Elliot Gelfand.
A passion thrived by dealing with “the corruption and lack of control in the city,” is Gelfand’s inspiration. He recognized that no one else was running for city council and took a step toward making a difference. Working alongside other council members, a master plan for city development is in the process of being created to work toward bigger picture ideas.
Gelfand addresses the main issues the city endures including consolidation and the beautification of downtown DuBois. To keep the community involved in this process, the social media pages will be active and he encourages people to share their opinions. Also, Gelfand plans to revitalize the committees to ensure public feedback.
With a degree in finance and law, it is “a great base to be a city councilman”, says Gelfand. Gelfand is devoted to providing an understanding of financial issues within the city. His focus is on bringing policy and procedures back to the forefront of the Dubois city council.
Gelfand claims that he has “always been interested in politics and serving the public.”
To keep a tight-knit community, he participates in assisting youth soccer, serving as the President of the YMCA board, and is involved in the DuBois Rotary. Gelfand is a corporate attorney for pharmaceutical company Lantheus and works from home. Prior to this position, he worked as an attorney for Penn Highlands Healthcare. Gelfand was born and currently resides in DuBois.
