Maryland man leads police on 42-mile chase on Interstate 80, Clearfield County

Clearfield County, PA – A Maryland man led police on a 42-mile chase on Interstate 80 throughout Clearfield County in a stolen vehicle.

State Police had attempted to pull over 22-year-old Frederick Walls Jr. from Columbia, Maryland, around 7:15 Tuesday morning around mile marker 117 near Clearfield.

Police say he had been driving at about 104 mph when they first attempted to do the traffic stop. Walls, however, fled at an even higher rate of speed, consistently going 120-130 mph for the next 40 or so miles on I-80.

PSP Rockview deployed “stop sticks” around mile marker 158. The vehicle was slowed down, but Walls still refused to stop.

State Police from Clearfield conducted a pit maneuver, bringing the chase to an end at mile marker 159, near Bellefonte.

The vehicle was found that be stolen out of Bowie, Maryland.

Walls remains in the Clearfield County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding police, receiving stolen property, and 68 traffic violations.
