DUBOIS – Our local Martin’s grocery store is collecting donations to help feed school aged children.
As a part of their Feeding School Kids initiative, the grocer will match all donations up to $100,000 dollars.
According to DuBois Area School’s Superintendent Wendy Benton, last year the program raised $10,000 dollars, purchasing snacks for elementary aged students who normally would not have that opportunity.
This year Mr. Matt Cherubini’s art students have created promotional signs that have been placed throughout the store.
The Feeding School Kids initiative lasts from January 1st until March 31st.

A Conversation with Holocaust Survivor Robert Teitel
An update from Mr. Nate Horner – 8th Grade English Instructor
As part of eighth grade’s study of The Diary of Anne Frank, we were honored to host Holocaust survivor Robert Frederick Teitel for a live interview. Born in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam in 1941, Robert lost his father to a concentration camp, his uncle to Auschwitz, and his mother to illness shortly after the war. Hidden with foster families and later placed in orphanages, Robert eventually immigrated to the U.S., where he built a remarkable life. His story of resilience deeply moved our students, who were attentive and respectful throughout, asking thoughtful questions that reflected their engagement. Mr. Teitel personally thanked our district for teaching the Holocaust, noting that many schools do not. I’m grateful for the teamwork that made this event possible and plan to make it an annual tradition to ensure students gain lasting lessons, foster empathy, and develop a deeper understanding of history.

3rd – JA Our City
JA Our City® introduces third-grade students to financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and grade-level social studies learning objectives, including how people manage their money and the importance of economic exchange within a city.
4th – JA Our Region
JA Our Region® introduces students to entrepreneurship and how entrepreneurs use resources to produce goods and services in a region. Students operate a hypothetical hot dog stand to understand the fundamental tasks performed by a business owner and to track the revenue and expenses of a business.
