BROCKWAY — If you receive a text message asking you to purchase a limited-edition t-shirt to support your local fire company, be aware that it is most likely a scam.
Multiple volunteer fire departments in the local area have been warning residents of this latest scam attempt.
In Brockway, the Volunteer Fire Company Chief Mike Hoskavich says the Brockway Fire Department is not soliciting contributions or selling apparel at this time, so he urges you to not open the text message link or make any purchases.
It is recommended that if you get a text that you are uncertain about, you can reach out to your local fire company to confirm if they are doing any fundraisers.
