Punxsutawney, PA – People across the world are wondering, “Will Punxsutawney Phil predict six more weeks of winter, or will he make Groundhog Day history by predicting an early spring for the second year in a row?” In just a few days, the world will have its answer.
The Pennsylvania Tourism Office will host live coverage of the 134rd Groundhog Day celebration from Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Up to 30,000 visitors descend on Punxsutawney each year, prompting a significant tourism boost for the small town of just 5,500 residents. According to the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce, the event adds about $1 million to the region each year.

Because Groundhog Day falls on a Sunday this year, the fun starts on Friday and continues the entire weekend throughout Punxsutawney. There are craft and art shows, live demonstrations of ice carvings and chainsaw carving wooden sculptures, wine tastings, walking tours, hay rides, scavenger hunt, sing-alongs, Groundhog Day movie screening, dinner specials and a Shadow Summit countdown just before midnight before Groundhog Day.
Groundhog Day gets underway around 3 a.m. on Sunday, as people will begin to make their journey up to Gobbler’s Knob. Around 7:20 Sunday, Punxsutawney Phil will reveal whether we can expect an early spring or six more weeks of winter.
Afterwards, the parties continue throughout Punxsutawney, including a special Groundhog Day birthday party for anyone who can prove they were born on Feb. 2 and even Groundhog Day-themed weddings!
To everyone who will be celebrating out there, stay safe, have fun, and hopefully Phil will bring us good news!
