Limiting Cell Phones in Brockway Schools

BROCKWAY – Brockway Elementary School is putting forward a policy to limit cell phone usage after one young girl was contacted by an adult through social media earlier in the year.

A concerned parent, and teacher at the school told the Brockway School Board that earlier in the school year her young child was using snapchat unbeknownst to her and was contacted by an adult.

After airing her concerns to Superintendent Brian Mulhollan, the district is now putting forward a new cell phone policy for the elementary schools.

“They can bring their cellphones to school obviously,“ explained Superintendent Mulhollan. “But it is to be turned off to ensure that it is not interfering with instruction, as well as not being used for purposes for which it’s not intended to be used for.”

This policy was chosen due to its similarity to what other surrounding districts are doing.
