Legislation Could Change Arrestable Crimes

UNDATED – A new piece of legislation, if passed, could change how arrestable police actions are handled moving forward.

The bill, sponsored by Philadelphia Representative Jose Giral, would mandate officers to first issue a warning to stop any low level criminal activity instead of going straight for an arrest.

If the individual does not comply with the officer’s orders they then can arrest that person.

Lawmakers believe this initiative would lower incarceration rates within the Commonwealth.
