Beaver Township, PA – A Knox man was scammed out of more than $7,500 by someone claiming to be from Publisher’s Clearing House.
The 63-year-old man says he was under the impression that he had won more than $2 million from Publisher’s Clearing House, but the person who contacted him told him that he would have to pay the taxes on the winnings. In reality, it was a scam.
When the victim reported the scam to police on Feb. 9, he said that he had made eight money orders totaling $7,550 to the scam artist. The investigation continues.
Remember, if someone claims that you have won a contest that you do not remember entering or if they claim that you will receive a large amount of money if you pay them a smaller amount first, it’s a sign of a scam.
