OLIVER TWP. – A 50-year-old Jefferson County woman is facing assault charges for firing a single bullet from a handgun during an argument.

According to a State Police report, Diane Phillips of Punxsutawney is accused of firing the shot inside a shared Oliver Township residence. Phillips admitted to troopers that she shot the single round in an attempt to scare the two victims who were drunk, and located inside the garage. Police say Phillips was arguing with the pair throughout the day, and she was upset with them about their use of alcohol and other issues.

Following her arraignment on Monday, Phillips was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
