Jefferson County woman charged for abandoning care-dependent mother

A preliminary hearing for a Jefferson County woman who is charged with abandoning her care-dependent mother and failing to provide her with food and medication is scheduled for tomorrow.

33-year-old Tiffany Hartle of Big Run is facing allegations of endangering the welfare of a care-dependent person for whom she is responsible, a second-class misdemeanor.

According to a criminal complaint, Hartle called State Police in January to request a welfare check on her mother at their Big Run residence.

When troopers arrived, they reportedly found a frantic woman in a medical bed who told them that Hartle is her caretaker, and had left the day before following an argument.

She also claimed that Hartle said she would not give her medications and that she didn’t want to take care of her.

The woman also told officers she had not had any medicine, food or drink for the prior two days.

Charges were filed against Hartle in Magisterial District Court three days later.
