BROOKVILLE — Police have jailed a 26-year-old Jefferson County man on allegations that he hit a toddler he was babysitting multiple times and caused bruises.
According to Brookville Borough Police, Matthew Witherite is accused of aggravated and simple assault as well as child endangerment. When the child’s mother discovered bruises and other marks on her 15-month-old’s body, she took the child to the emergency room of Penn Highlands DuBois and the police were contacted.
Witherite was arraigned last Wednesday, and his bail was set at $200,000.
A preliminary hearing for Witherite is scheduled for April 11th.
