Jefferson County first responders given training on grain bin rescue equipment

Brookville – First responders in Jefferson County were given training on how to use new grain bin rescue equipment on Tuesday.

The county recently obtained two grain bin tubes, which are devices used to help prevent a person stuck in a grain bin from being swept under and to help them to escape.

The Jefferson County Director of Emergency Services, Tracy Zents and Director of the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety, Dan Neenan, presented information on how the new equipment is used properly.

Training took place at the Warsaw Township Fire Hall near Brookville.

Neenan said the training came at an important time after three men were killed in a Centre County silo just a few weeks ago.
