BROOKVILLE – The Department of Children and Youth Services in Jefferson County is under the leadership of a new director.
At the most recent meeting of the Board of Commissioners, the promotion of Melissa George into that position was made official. George replaces Kerith Strano-Taylor who resigned from the director position in early February. The Jefferson County Commissioners also selected Brockway attorney, Danielle Melillo, to serve as the new CYS solicitor.
In other business, the county’s Solid Waste Authority was given an advance of funds to help purchase a recycling truck. According to the commissioners, the advance will not be more than $252,000, and it will be reimbursed within three to six months once a Department of Environmental Protection recycling grant is received.
