PUNXSUTAWNEY – A Jefferson County church has partnered with a national non-profit group to help forgive $1.6-million worth of local medical debt.

According to Pastor Devin Wintermyer, New Beginnings Church in Punxsutawney has raised $11,000 that will help families in Jefferson and Clearfield Counties eliminate their medical debt.

The church is partnered with RIP Medical Debt, which uses donations to buy medical debt at steep discounts with no tax consequences or penalties. The church’s Youth & Young Adult Pastor, John Hain, said the donations and relief are helping to change lives.

New Beginnings Church also operates a free medical clinic called Birdie’s Haven which offers free doctor exams twice a month.
