Plano, TX – J.C. Penney is reportedly likely to file for bankruptcy soon and start plans to close 200 stores nationwide, perhaps as early as this week, as the company is currently $4 billion in debt.
J.C. Penney has nearly 850 stores right now, including in DuBois, Clarion, and Indiana.
The company is 118 years old, one of the oldest department stores in the country, but it has been struggling financially even before the coronavirus pandemic.
There’s no official word about if and when the closings would take place.
It’s unknown whether the DuBois J.C. Penney location would be among the 200 store closings that are expected to happened.
