ELK COUNTY – The USDA Forest Service invites your input and comments regarding their proposal to improve stream habitats along 65 miles of streams in Elk County.
The streams are in Highland, Ridgway, and Spring Creek townships.
The proposed project includes cutting down trees into streams and onto floodplains, as well as constructing beaver dam analogs.
Forest Service officials say that Bear Creek, Irwin Run, and Upper Clarion River watersheds have been identified as priority for restoration.
According to USDA, both large wood and beaver dam analogs would reduce flooding risks, slow flood flows, and improve aquatic habitat.
You can learn more about the proposed project, and how you can provide your input on the project page on the USDA Forest Service website.
