WOODLAND – Pennsylvania’s rifle deer hunting season is underway, and a lot of meat will soon be distributed to those in need thanks to Hunters Sharing the Harvest.
The program started in 1991 and coordinates the donation, processing, and distribution of venison across the state.
One of the Tri-County area processors is Jason Gill of The Country Butcher in Woodland.
Gill says that 634 pounds of meat was donated through his business last year, but he is hoping that will exceed 700 pounds this year.
Both deer and elk that have been legally harvested can be donated to the program.
Hunters Sharing the Harvest reports that one deer can provide up to 200 meals.
