
Houtzdale, PA – A Houtzdale tobacco store was broken into early Friday morning in an attempt to steal lottery tickets or cash.
State Police in Clearfield say the burglary alarm went off at the Puff Super Value Store on Spring Street in Houtzdale, Clearfield County, just before 12:50 a.m. early Friday morning.
The thief forced their way inside the store, then proceeded to try to steal lottery tickets or cash from a machine.
In the end, the thief was unsuccessful, but they did manage to cause more than $1,000 worth of damage.
The thief cut wires to the machine, worth about $500. They also damaged the exterior door to the building, worth about $300, and damaged the lottery machine, worth about another $300.
Police are continuing to investigate.
