DUBOIS – A local group is working to address homelessness in DuBois
The group Giving Hope is stepping in after the closure of the city’s only shelter in 2025. Organizers say that without overnight housing many must rely on places like the YMCA and public library during the day and no options at night.
While local churches and volunteers help by providing meals, hygiene supplies, and essentials, the root cause of this epidemic must be addressed.
“There’s a multitude of reasons that force people to not have a structure and live homeless,” explained Kim Mowrey with Giving Hope. “The number one reason being mental illness, addiction, alcoholism, and financial crisis simply cannot afford the rent or mortgage payments.”
Giving Hope is now looking for your help as they work towards a long-term solution for local shelters.
