PERRY TWP. – No one was hurt, but four families lost their homes when an apartment building was destroyed by fire in Jefferson County on Friday.
According to firefighters at the scene, the structure was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. It took more than two hours to bring the fire under control. Crews from 13 volunteer fire companies battled the Perry Township blaze. The State Police Fire Marshal is investigating the cause, but the apartment building, valued at approximately $450,000, is considered a complete loss.
Several family pets reportedly died in the fire.
