Former Commissioner Accused of Theft

JEFFERSON COUNTY – A former Jefferson County Commissioner is facing theft charges after allegedly stealing discarded jail fencing to sell for scrap.

According to police in Fall of 2022 a contractor discovered some fencing left over from a 2018 renovation at the county jail.

After notifying 70 year-old Herbert Bullers Jr. he had allegedly told the contractor to load the material onto his personal vehicle.

Bullers then allegedly took the fencing and scrapped it for around $250 dollars.

An investigation of the alleged theft began in July of 2024, Bullers is now facing theft charges with a preliminary hearing on March 24th.
