Allegheny Township, PA – A firefighter was seriously injured when he was struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 80 while setting up road flares for another accident.

It happened around 7:41 Thursday morning near mile marker 42 on eastbound I-80, close to Emlenton, near the border of both Venango and Clarion Counties.

25-year-old Justin Williams from Kennerdell, PA, a member of the Clintonville Fire Department, was setting up flares and directing traffic for a crash that had happened on the snowy roadways shortly beforehand.

25-year-old Tyler Schurko from Mercer, PA, had been driving a Peterbilt tractor-trailer and had attempted to change from the left lane to the right lane but lost control on the snow-covered highway.

He struck a guide rail, then struck Williams.

State Police in Clarion say that Williams had serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

He was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
