DUBOIS – The Consolidation of DuBois and Sandy Township Fire Departments has already begun showing benefits.
Fire Chief Joe Mitchell told us that since the merger, efficiency has improved and costs have been able to be cut, especially with expensive fire trucks.
“We anticipate about a 42 percent decrease in costs as to what that replacement plan would have looked like had we not consolidated.”
He went on to say that fire truck prices have surged with some models going over a million dollars with DuBois’ apparatus beginning to need to be replaced due to age and parts availability.
The DuBois Fire Department is now using smaller, more cost-effective vehicles wherever possible while maintaining their specialized equipment needed to protect the community.
