PUNXSUTAWNEY – To help celebrate Fire Prevention week and National Pizza month, a Punxsutawney pizza shop is giving back to volunteer Firefighters.
Punxsy Pizza is currently hosting their 23rd “Pizza and Prevention” selling “The Chef” pizza with a portion going towards the Punxsutawney Fire Department.
During the month of October, you can buy a 12 by 24 18 slice Chef Pizza or free pizza coupon for $17.49, with each one giving $5 dollars back.
We spoke to the owner of Punxsy Pizza, Scott Anthony who says that “Pizza and Prevention” is meant to shine a light on local Firefighters.
“The whole purpose of it was to prevent accidents and fires from happening, and for people to form a deeper appreciation of the volunteer Firemen and what they do,“ explained Anthony. “When it comes down to it, they have to do a lot of fundraising themselves. They don’t just get free trucks and stuff. The equipment they have is very expensive, it’s close to $3,000 dollars to outfit one member.”
He went on to say that “Pizza and Prevention” typically sees a huge community response, with thousands raised to support a much needed profession.
