SIGEL –  A Monday morning fire in Jefferson County spread quickly due to high winds, and an Eldred Township house was destroyed.

Sigel Volunteer Fire Chief David Smith says the property owner suffered minor injuries, but no one else was hurt. Smith says firefighters were called to the blaze at a residence along O’Donnel Road, and there was heavy smoke and flames when they arrived. According to Smith, the fire was accidentally caused by a portable heater. Firefighters from Jefferson, Clearfield, and two neighboring counties helped to extinguish the flames. The American Red Cross also assisted at the scene.
