Fire crews will have real house fire training in Brockway this Saturday

Brockway, PA – Fire departments from the Tri-County Area will be participating in a house fire training Saturday outside Brockway.

The fire departments will have the chance to see a house fire up close, as an old home ready for demolition will be destroyed by the fire departments. Six teams will work together to learn how to attack a fire, including one with thick smoke. Professional fire instructors and ignition teams will light wood pallets with straw inside the house, planning on 12 fires before the house burns down and falls in on itself.

Anyone driving by before the fire will notice the letters A, B, C, and D painted on the house. This allows firefighters to know which side of the house they need to work on.

Brockway Fire Chief Mike Hoskavich said that the training helps young firefighters learn how fires grow, spread, and behave. He said that instructors from different fire departments will be there to make sure the event goes smoothly and safely.

The proximity of the house to Route 28 means that one lane of that road will be closed between the Brockway Orient Club and Sugar Hill Road. The closure is expected to last from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
