ELK COUNTY – The Elk County District Attorney is warning you about a telephone scam in the county.
According to the DA, the scam will have an individual calling you claiming to be Sergeant Gregg McManus, Sheriff Todd Caltagarone, or a detective. The individual will then say that you have citations and fines pending and you need to pay them.
The DA says that officers would never ask you to pay them over the phone and to stay vigilant about this scam.
At this time no one has reported any loss due to the scam.
