RIDGWAY – Another step has been taken to tighten security at the Elk County Prison.
At its most recent meeting, the Elk County Commissioners approved a $34,000 bid for the jail yard’s screening project. The commissioners unanimously approved the bid submitted by a Bradford company. An exterior section of the prison yard will be upgraded with the installation of a heavy-duty, high-strength steel wire mesh screen. An engineer advised the commissioners that installing the screen will prevent contraband from being passed over the existing fence to prisoners while they are in the exercise yard.
The project is expected to begin within the next 60 days, and could be completed in one to two weeks.
