Elderly Brockway Man Scammed of $20,000

BROCKWAY – An 88 year-old Brockway man has been the victim of a false lawyer scam Thursday.

According to police, the elder received a call from a man claiming to be a lawyer for his son. He claimed he was in jail and needed the 88 year-old to pay $20,000 dollars in cash to bail him out and directed the man to meet him at the North Atherton Street CVS in State College.

The man met the false lawyer, described as a 6 foot tall man that was between 40 and 50, wearing a maroon pullover shirt, where he gave him the money before leaving.

 The false lawyer was also described to be driving a newer silver Hyundai SUV.
