DUBOIS – DuBois leaders are considering a new stormwater utility fee as they look for ways to repair aging infrastructure and possibly lower taxes.

With over 150 miles of stormwater pipes and drainage systems deteriorating, these repairs are typically paid for through the general fund budget.

Under this Stormwater Authority proposal, property owners would pay a base monthly fee based on each individual property to support a fund dedicated for stormwater repairs.

“The average residential property owner sees 50% to 70% in funding stormwater through a utility than by doing it as you’re currently doing it through property taxes,” explained Adrienne Vicari with HRG. “It’s pretty significant.”

With similar programs all throughout Pennsylvania, this system is designed to lower the strain in the general fund while acquiring the means to complete needed work.

This proposal is still in the planning stages and you will have opportunities to put in your input before any final decision is made.
