DUBOIS – Efforts are being made in the City of DuBois to drive out blight within the municipality with the latest targets being dilapidated buildings and skill games locations.
In a presentation to the DuBois City Council by Downtown DuBois Board President Lisa Gabler, she brought up many concerns she sees for the municipality’s future.
First off, she addressed downtown beautification projects, claiming city leaders must be mindful around wheelchair access on sidewalks. She also said that the community needs benches and removing them will not fight any problems.
Her biggest point, that skill game locations are a blight on the city. Gabler claimed that these locations are dens of drugs, homelessness, and an unsupervised place that our local children could just wander into.
“I am not against having skill games in clubs, bars, or attended locations,“ explained Gabler. “Our issue within our downtown footprint is more of the unmanned or very minimally manned, open 24 hours, non monitored gaming locations.”
It was also announced that the city will employ Keystone Core Services to perform a property survey of parts of the city to determine in an unbiased opinion the most blighted locations in the municipality.
