DUBOIS – With many misconceptions in the community and social media, the DuBois School Board say they were never considering dropping their School Police Officers.
Original conceptions from the community claimed that with last week’s vote against the Memorandum of Understanding meant that all Redshirts would be let go.
As Board President Robert Wachob says, this was wrong information..
“The recent delay in approving the wage agreement was not about removing or reducing the police force,“ stated Wachob. “It was about taking the time to do our due diligence. Researching comparable agreements in other school districts, to ensure we make a fair and responsible decision for our officers, our students, and our taxpayers.”
This deal would equate to a 12% increase to the hourly rate of the around 16 School Resource Officers beginning on July 1st, with around a one dollar increase annually through 2028. Currently $882,000 dollars goes towards this crucial school service.
It was also relayed to us that the Memorandum of Understanding is an agreement with each individual officer with no union or group decisions needed.
This plan was approved by the DuBois School Board with the only vote against it by Sam Armagost.
