DUBOIS – With many misconceptions surrounding the special meeting at the DuBois School Board tonight regarding officer’s employment, we have reached out to Superintendent Wendy Benton, who gave us the following statement.
“We understand that some members of our school community have expressed concerns regarding the renewal of the employment agreement with our school police officers. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our highest priority—a value we all share and uphold together.”
“The school board is fully committed to maintaining a strong and visible police presence in our schools. However, in the interest of ensuring fairness and equity, the board has chosen to defer the vote on the current agreement to allow additional time for fact-finding. This step is being taken to carefully review and compare employment terms with those of other school districts with similar demographics. It’s essential that any agreement reflects both our deep appreciation for the work of our school police officers and our responsibility to maintain sound and comparable employment practices.
Given the importance and time-sensitive nature of this decision with the upcoming school year approaching, the school board has already scheduled a special voting meeting on Thursday, July 17th at 7:00 PM. The purpose of this meeting is to review the additional information gathered and, with thoughtful consideration, vote on an employment agreement that will be presented to our school police officers for their consideration.”
“We sincerely value the ongoing contributions and dedication of our current school police officers and appreciate the strong relationships they have built with our students and staff. Thank you for your continued trust and support as we work together to ensure safe, welcoming schools for all.”
We will inform you of the results of tonight’s meeting,
